Frequently Asked Questions |
| Here
are some questions and answers, which have been coming the most out of
our relationship with divers and / or students. We hope this will help
you understand better the general concept of scuba diving training and
our diving education philosophy. We also added below some links you might find of interest in very different topics. Please feel free to contact us via e-mail the need should arise or if something in this website is not clear for you, it will be a pleasure for us to help you in all your scuba diving needs. We hope meeting you soon in Kumamoto...or underwater! Your devoted NAUI team at Consult Dive International. |
| What is NAUI? NAUI is the National Association of Underwater Instructors, created in 1960 in the USA. NAUI ran the first ever scuba diving instructor course in Houston, Texas in September 1960 and will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2000. NAUI has been promoting "Dive Safety Through Education" for 40 years and as a nonprofit association, is recognized as the most democratic certifying agency worldwide. One reason for this is that its 9 Directors are elected by the instructor members of the association and therefore, NAUI Instructors are the true owners of the Association. More information on NAUI, please click here. |
| Why choose NAUI? As a NAUI leader and instructor, you will be part of the diver certifying agency for whom quality in training and safety is the foremost concern for the students. Courses are designed to train competent divers who would be good dive buddies for the instructor's 'loved ones'. With NAUI, all courses will include more academic training, more dives and rescue training at all levels, increasing the competency of the newly certified divers and dive leader/instructor beyond minimum requirements. To choose NAUI training is to chose quality and thoroughness! Many agencies worldwide and in the States have chosen NAUI as their training agency, recognizing quality training for 40 years. Among them, you could find: NASA, where Astronauts training in the "Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory" in Houston is supervised by NAUI Instructors. NASA Astronauts are NAUI certified divers. State and Federal police forces, Sheriff counties, Search and Rescue Teams, U.S Coast Guards are also among the most know entities trusting NAUI for its training! |
| Why NAUI Instructor? By extension of the previous question, becoming a NAUI instructor will allow you to join a worldwide diving educator team who is dedicated to training the best divers possible, simply because we care. We have a commitment and a duty to our students first. You will also enjoy an academic freedom you will not find elsewhere. As you will be trained as a diving educator, you will not rely on a dogmatic system of diffusing information to your students with the minimum of interaction with them. You will be the main component of the educative system. You will build your courses following your students needs and NAUI standards to frame your teaching. As a NAUI instructor you will be asked to have a personality and imprint your students with the "Quality Difference" we all strive for, therefore training competent and safe divers. |
| Can I join NAUI if I am
from another agency? Yes! We have an equivalence system which will not give you the corresponding level, but will give you the opportunity to train with NAUI on the next higher level. If you are a Divemaster or Assistant Instructor of another agency and wish to train as a NAUI instructor, you will be allowed to enter a NAUI ITC after you have completed a NAUI ITC preparatory course, designed to bring the non NAUI leader up to NAUI standards in knowledge and skills. Please see ICC for information on how to cross over to NAUI if you are already an instructor from another agency. |
